Despite the catastrophic failure of America in Iraq--and make no
mistake the venture is widely accepted as failure by both the public at
large and most educated observers, independent of individual opinions
on America's right to intervene in world affairs.

Unfortunately,
that right (sic) has yet to be undermined...

By Elizabeth Gutowski

I remember shopping for the first game console I ever owned – the Nintendo. My brother and I were very young when we made the trip from Mississauga, ON across the border to Buffalo, NY to take advantage of the cheaper US retail prices. The wait to get it home was unbearable. What do you mean you want to see the rainbow over Niagara Falls?!? Mario is in the trunk, and he wants out NOW. Finally, we were able to wrap our little hands around the boxy controller and discover the wonderful worlds of Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt for the very first time.

The Enemy of Our Enemy

The path to Peace passes through a dangerous territory marked by warfare between two great and selfish evils: Fascism and Terrorism. These evils have stood against one another since the beginning of human history, forever attempting to co-opt the people of the world to one side or another.

The terrorist has no control. The fascist has robbed him of it and is too powerful to kill. For this reason, the terrorist resorts to the only strategy he has left: self-deprecating sacrifice in the face of the monolithic villain of fascism.

The fascist has all of the control. The terrorist threatens to take it from him and is too small and quick to fight with force. For this reason, the fascist resorts to the only strategy he has left: inconsiderate sacrifice of those he controls in the face of the verminous infestation of terrorism.

The terrorist preaches fear of the fascist and the fascist's ways. The terrorist omits that if he were to defeat the fascist, he would become a fascist.

The fascist preaches fear of the terrorist and the terrorist's ways. The fascist omits that if the terrorist were to defeat him, he would become a terrorist.

While the fascist has control and enslaves you to keep it, the terrorist who seeks it will kill you to take it. If their positions were reversed, we would have but to swap their names. The only difference between the two is that one fights with the double-edged sword of order, the other an indiscriminate bomb of chaos.

Because they cannot kill eachother, we are the tools of their folly. We are the innocents, targeted by terrorists. We are the free, imprisoned by fascists. And we may be stuck between a rock and a hard place, but we must remember: The enemy of our enemy is not our friend.

We cannot run to the arms of one of these evils to save us from the other. The truth is that these evils are one evil. Just as the terrorist will not save you from the fascist. The fascist will not save or free you from anything.

On the path to Peace through the war of fascism and terrorism, your freedom is as important as your life. The fascist tells you that you will be safe from the terrorist without your freedom.

Don't believe him. He's lying.

He cannot protect. He can only control.

And if killing you or letting you die will keep his control from the terrorist...

He'll do it.

Fsck the Empire,
1i

Robot Pride Day 2007

Then the lights went out.

It wasn’t the same as when oil finally ran dry. Then, the streets ran with blood and
power-lust flew over the people like an angry dragon, scouring for goats to eat
and gold to line its nest.

This time was different.
Serene. Of course there was the
initial shock, fear, and panic – all endemic of such extraordinary and sudden
change - though these shortly subsided; none of us expected or predicted the
intense and palpable side effect of tranquility that started to grow within us. I am not a Luddite. I never hated the technology or our inextricable
relationship with the Machine – but I cautioned against its effects on us as a
thread in the larger weave. We were
surrendering to its hypnotic and predictable effects, submitting to the
comforts of its reliability and predictable nature. Despite the fact that the machines could
break down, we presumed, demanded their subservient and consistent response to
our manufactured needs.

When the lights went out, it was as though a huge logotherapeutic
bomb had dropped and meaning returned to our small daily actions. We now found significance in the smallest
gestures, within the moments in between – lying down in the grass, a passing
look from a stranger, the beauty of new pen stroke upon a blank page,
searching, embellishing, discovering.

Success was no longer an ever-dangling carrot that we
stalked voraciously, allowing so many quiet moments to rush past as we hurtled
towards our graves, lined with trophies and accolades, rather, success became
the ability to stop and savor how far along the road we had traveled, as we
inspired the grace of where we were and anticipated, with great enthusiasm the
unknown possibilities before us.

The new robots, those that ran on the energy of the sun,
still walked among us, but the threat of our obsolescence was lifted – for now
we were, once again, unpredictable and filled with awe and curiosity. We walked outside of any sort of grid. We were restored to something for machines to
dream about.

Sins of the Father

America declared its independence from British Imperialism 231 years ago. Since then, we as a nation have grown to become the father we shunned.

As a nation, we must accept the realities of growing up, learn from the mistakes of the past, and put an end to the repetition associated with following in the footsteps of those who have come before us.

As children, we must be ever seeking a new and better way. This begins as individuals. Please join me in declaring independence--not from America, but from our past, and from the sins of our fathers.

For it is the past and our parents that hold us hostage. It is the past we repeat endlessly while telling ourselves that change comes slowly. It is our parents' mistakes that we continue to make.

The so-called baby steps that we have taken for so long are not taking us forward, but in circles. The belief that change must come slowly is an illusion that must be cast aside. We must resolve to change the world. The whole world. At once.

For 231 years, each branch of our government has endeavored to do its job to the fullest of its abilities save one: The People.

We the people who put forth the Constitution in the first place have regularly allowed our God-given, Constitutionally-enumerated rights to be manipulated and perverted, whether it be in our tolerance of slavery--which by no interpretation of even an un-ammended Constitution should have been legal in the first place--to our tolerance of recent totalitarian laws such as the Real ID Act and the Military Commissions Act.

This July 4th, 231 years after America declared independence from Britain, please join me in declaring your independence from your past, your realization that the present is uncalled for, and your devotion to the future that could be.

Then, please get your own house in order as expeditiously as possible. Your personal devotion to a better world is no longer optional or encouraged. It is required.

For a louder voice,
1i
